Skid Resistance: Old topic, new issues -

In November 2009 an ambitious research project called “SKIDSAFE” was launched with Financial support of the European Commission through FP7 for Research & Innovation. An international consortium of renowned companies and institutions coordinated by the Delft University of Technology has been working on test methods and micromechanical finite element models in order to predict the level of skid resistance as a function of the pavement material properties and the environmental conditions and the in-time evolution of the surface properties.

The consortium would like to share with the road engineering community the results obtained so far and obtain feedback and new inputs on how the final results could generate the maximum and most positive impact on the road engineering practice. For more information, look at the webpage www.skidsafe.org.
