RILEM 2013 -

The micro- and nano-modification of infrastructure materials and the associated multi-scale characterization and simulation has the potential to open up whole new uses and classes of materials, with wide-ranging implications for society. The use of multi-scale characterization and simulation brings the ability to target changes at the very small scale that predictably effect the bulk behavior of the material and thus allowing for the optimization of material behavior and performance. This Symposium brings together key researchers from around the world for presenting their findings in a focused symposium environment.

After the Symposium, there will be a Rheobit workshop given by Dr. David Anderson and Dr. Geoff Rowe from 12-14 June 2013 at KTH. The workshop is intended for engineers and scientists experienced with asphalt binders but seeking fundamental knowledge that is not available elsewhere. The workshop will be about the asphalt binder rheology, measurement priciples and analytical concepts.

Strait Crossings 2013 -

The 6th International Symposium on Strait Crossings – Extreme Crossings and New Technologies – will take place 16–19 June 2013 in Bergen, Norway.

Straits and sounds, as well as inlets and fjords, are barriers for road and rail transport. These barriers can be overcome using fixed links or ferries. Strait crossings greatly influence transport costs and impact social development, the environment and the total energy consumption, as well as traffic safety issues.

The symposium is organised by the Norwegian Public Roads Administration and the Norwegian Society of Graduate Technical and Scientific Professionals.
